Shooting Sports is one of this country’s most popular and safest pastimes. Nearly a million people hold firearm and shotgun certificates issued by the police and double that shoot with airguns. Shooting brings together people of widely different backgrounds. It allows men and women, young and old, and less able bodied to compete on equal terms.
It is a sport at which this country excels in Olympic and other international competition whilst creatating great wealth. Expenditure by participants and organisers amounts to more than 300 million pounds each year. Nearly as much again is generated by indirect expenditure; more than half a billion pounds in total a year and employing 30,000 jobs in the UK.
Although it is a very popular sport it is not well understood.
There are many Home Office approved shooting clubs up and down the country and a small number of Miniature Rifle Range Operators that would welcome you to have a go and see for yourself the enjoyment that can be had in practicing this ancient art of Skill at Arms. Every sporting outlet of this type typically has onsite Range Officers and Instructors to ensure the safety of all participants during any shooting.
Once you have sampled the sport, you wish to take it further and apply to join an approved club. Then after serving a probationary period and training you may wish to apply for your very own license to own and shoot your own firearms.
Shooting is a sport for everyone, after all, firearms help forge our nation to what it is today, a free society. The skills of marksmanship and have been developed over thousands of years with its basic principles still the same today with modern Hi tech firearms as they were then in our ancient times.
